Project Background

Chile is one of the important berry-producing countries in the Southern Hemisphere, with blueberries, raspberries and other berries cultivated across different agricultural regions.

However, berry production can be affected by changing weather conditions, including rainfall, frost, excessive solar radiation and fluctuations in temperature. For commercial growers, protecting fruit during critical growing and harvesting periods can help improve production stability and fruit quality.

Protected cultivation has become increasingly relevant to Chilean berry production. Blueberries can be grown under tunnels, plastic film or netting to protect crops from climatic conditions, while plastic film can also be used to reduce rain exposure and help manage fruit cracking and rotting.
