30-Hectare Multi-Span Greenhouse Project in South Africa

Project Background

South Africa has a diverse agricultural climate, with significant differences in temperature, solar radiation and rainfall between regions. For commercial horticultural production, strong solar radiation, high daytime temperatures, sudden temperature changes and water availability can create challenges for stable crop production.

Protected cultivation provides growers with a more manageable production environment. In South Africa, greenhouse and plastic tunnel systems are used for high-value horticultural crops, including cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and lettuce. Greenhouse structures can also help protect crops from strong UV radiation, wind, rain and temperature extremes.

A South African agricultural customer planned to develop a 30-hectare commercial multi-span greenhouse project to expand protected crop production and improve the efficiency and stability of large-scale farming.

The customer required a greenhouse system that could make effective use of natural sunlight while providing sufficient ventilation, crop protection and space for modern agricultural equipment.

JYXD was invited to provide a customized 30-hectare multi-span film greenhouse solution based on the customer's project scale, crop requirements and local environmental conditions.

Client Requirements

The customer wanted to establish a large-scale protected cultivation facility suitable for commercial agricultural production.

The key requirements included:

Suitable structure for large-scale commercial cultivation
Strong protection against intense solar radiation
Efficient natural ventilation
Protection against wind, rain and unfavorable weather
Reliable galvanized steel structure
High-quality agricultural film covering
Efficient utilization of available farmland
Sufficient internal growing space
Compatibility with irrigation and fertigation systems
Customized design for a 30-hectare project
Convenient centralized farm management
Stable product quality and reliable overseas delivery

For the customer, climate management, ventilation, water-use efficiency and long-term greenhouse durability were particularly important when selecting the greenhouse structure.

Design Solution

Taking South Africa's environmental conditions and the requirements of large-scale commercial agriculture into consideration, JYXD developed a customized 30-hectare multi-span film greenhouse solution.

The multi-span structure was selected to create a large continuous cultivation area while improving land utilization and making it easier to integrate irrigation, fertigation and other agricultural systems.

Optimized Natural Ventilation

Efficient ventilation was one of the key considerations in the greenhouse design.

During hot periods, excessive heat accumulation inside the greenhouse can affect crop growth. The greenhouse can therefore be equipped with suitable side and roof ventilation systems to improve natural airflow and help regulate temperature and humidity.

This approach is particularly important in South Africa, where greenhouse crops can be exposed to strong solar radiation and significant temperature fluctuations.

Solar Radiation Protection

South Africa receives strong solar radiation in many agricultural regions.

The greenhouse covering provides a physical barrier between the crop and the external environment while maintaining sufficient natural light for photosynthesis.

Depending on the local climate and crop requirements, shading systems can also be incorporated to reduce excessive solar radiation during high-intensity periods.

South African agricultural guidance specifically identifies protection against strong UV radiation as one of the purposes of greenhouse cultivation.

Multi-Span Structure

The 30-hectare project uses a multi-span configuration to create a continuous commercial growing environment.

Compared with separate small greenhouse units, the connected structure provides greater flexibility for large-scale farm management.

Water & Irrigation Integration

Water management is an important consideration for commercial agriculture in South Africa.

Modern protected cultivation can integrate irrigation and fertigation systems to deliver water and nutrients directly to the crop root zone.

The final configuration can be customized according to the customer's crop, local climate, water availability, greenhouse dimensions and production objectives.

Production & Manufacturing

After the greenhouse design and technical specifications were confirmed, JYXD began manufacturing the greenhouse components for the South African project.

For a 30-hectare multi-span greenhouse project, production requires careful coordination of structural components, covering materials, ventilation systems and greenhouse accessories.

The manufacturing process included:

Material Preparation → Steel Processing → Hot-Dip Galvanizing → Component Manufacturing → Quality Inspection → Packaging

The main steel components were hot-dip galvanized to improve corrosion resistance and provide long-term durability in an outdoor agricultural environment.

Because the project involved a large continuous greenhouse structure, components were manufactured and organized according to their specifications and installation requirements.

Before shipment, the greenhouse components were inspected and classified to help ensure smooth transportation and efficient installation at the project site.

Container Loading & Delivery

After production and quality inspection were completed, the greenhouse components were prepared for international shipment from China to South Africa.

For a 30-hectare project, efficient packaging and container utilization were important parts of the logistics process.

JYXD's logistics team arranged the loading process with the goal of:

Maximizing container space
Protecting components during transportation
Simplifying unloading and inventory
Maintaining clear component classification
Supporting efficient on-site installation

The shipment included the main greenhouse steel structure, agricultural film, ventilation components and related greenhouse accessories.

All components were carefully organized and packed before loading to help the customer efficiently identify and distribute materials after arrival.

Through coordinated production, quality control, packaging and international logistics, JYXD provided a complete greenhouse supply solution for this large-scale South African project.
